Variation rose bonbon et "en-chantée" du mythe de Pygmalion, My Fair Lady constitue l'un des chants du cygne d'un genre qui a fait la splendeur de Hollywood: la comédie musicale. Aux commandes de cette délicieuse comédie acidulée située dans le Londres du début du siècle, George Cukor (Une étoile est née, Femmes, Comment l'esprit vient aux femmes), dont la légendaire griffe marque l'ensemble du film: son goût pour la flamboyance et le grand spectacle, son utilisation du scope, sa précision dans la direction d'acteurs – et surtout d'actrices –, son regard parfois cruel mais toujours admiratif envers les femmes. Même si le film souffre un peu du gigantisme décoratif que l'on doit à Cecil Beaton, le réalisateur du Milliardaire obtient de ses principaux interprètes, Rex Harrison et Audrey Hepburn, une interprétation éblouissante, et les splendides numéros musicaux figurent désormais au panthéon du genre. Le film obtint 8 Oscars en 1964, dont ceux de meilleur film, de meilleur réalisateur et de meilleur acteur. --Sylvain Lefort

Un professeur de linguistique distingué et misogyne (Rex *harrisson) va tenter de transformer une jeune fille vulgaire en lady présentable. Ce thème sert de prétexte à des numéros chantés, enjoués, pleins d'élégance (Oh, les belles toillettes d'Audrey Hepburn) er de réparties savoureuses.
Images, musique, numéros d'acteurs, tout est parfait.

Professor Henry Higgins (Rex Harrison) who specializes in the English language makes a bet with Colonel Hugh Pickering (Wilfrid Hyde-White) that he can take someone who speaks with a lower-class language and by correcting the speech can pass off as upper-class or royalty. Overhearing this bet is a flower girl Eliza Doolittle (Audrey Hepburn); she wants to work a flower stand. But they will not take her unless she can speak more "genteel". Professor Higgins takes up the challenge.
Will he succeed?
What does her father (Stanley Holloway) thing finding that she moved in whit the two professors and did not want any clothes?
This is a musical version of the movie Pygmalion (1938), based on a play by George Bernard Shaw.
As people find that music and movies bring memories of the time in which they heard or viewed it. His movie has a meaning to me as I too was in love and found my self singing "On the street where you live." One of the strengths of the movie is that many of the songs instead of being classical and just stuffed into at odd times actually are songs that you would initiate in your life and they did so in the lives of the characters in the movie.

Un grand classique de Cukor et Audrey Hepburn, magnifique en fille de basse extraction avec un accent épouvantable qu'un linguiste tente de lui faire changer.Les exercices que doit subir Audrey sont à la limite de la torture morale et physique. A voir

Le thème de pigmalion, siècle dernier à Londres, un homme las de la bourgoisie et de ses contraintes décide de prendre une fille des rues et d'en faire une lady.
Le numéro d'acteurs est jubilatoire, les scènes, la pertinence (et l'impertinence) des répliques un véritable régal. Réalisation parfaite, un chef d'oeuvre...
